9/19/2013 0 Comments A Few Little Updates Well there are a few little things to update you all on…..
And the first little update is the most important – he is called Lukah Peter Watt and he was born 30 August at a little over 7 ½ lbs! Lukah is the first grandchild that we have known across our family and he has been welcomed warmly! He was born a little over two weeks ago now and has, as you can imagine taken a great deal of our time and attention. I have had a lovely time shopping for cute little boy things - oh but there are just too many cute things out there - it has been so hard to keep to any kind of a budget! Caleb and Tara, his mum and dad have been just wonderful, and have settled incredibly well into this new part of their lives. And Lukah of course is a delight! We have been back and forth to Canberra as much as possible and will continue to make frequent trips up until we leave here, not wanting to miss watching this tiny blessing’s early days. Peter’s baby, the house he has been building is also growing quite rapidly! Over the past few weeks it has gone from lock-up to seeing the internal work begin. Peter has been plastering and stopping (filling the gaps in the plaster) until his arms are fairly falling off! He seriously works too hard! But it is coming along extremely well and the family he is building it for are getting so excited about the finish moving in! It continues to amaze me what capabilities this Peter has when it comes to construction! I also have a ‘baby’ – mine is an on-line community on Facebook which I have been sowing seeds into over the last few months and watching grow. It’s called Miles Away From Abuse (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Miles-away-from-abuse/574459695906330) and given me the opportunity to support people who have struggles in this area. I began it in March when Peter was sailing to Auckland and it grew a tiny bit. I was excited when it got to 100 followers. But in recent days it has grown quite significantly and is at the moment approaching 2000. On average I see over 35,000 page views in a week and once or twice over the past month it has approached 50,000 page views in a week! That’s quite staggering and thrilling for me! Each day I post on a topic that relates to some aspect of surviving abuse, recovering from abuse, caring for ourselves as we recover from abuse or something related and it amazes me how many people have let me know what a support this is. And when we are not busy with these babies in our lives we have been very busy getting Argos ready for the next part of our adventure. We have had, as you will remember, big things to do as well as the many little tasks necessary after a lengthy stop. There is the work we needed to do with finally getting our electrics all sorted out and that is progressing well. We now have all brand new batteries, and glass mat at that (which I understand to be the best). The shore power issues that plagued us since Esperance are now resolved with completely new wiring throughout and no incompatibility issues with shore power and our internal operating power (which is actually gone!). Once the new batteries are wired in we can attend to the last step which is to ensure sufficient charging of the batteries via the engine and replacing the inverter which blew up. Our new stove arrived in Batemans Bay today although it is not on board yet, but that too will need to be fitted. Peter has been re-varnishing all the floors and they are looking so bright and shiny, and he built new internal steps a couple of weekends ago, replacing the poorly-built steps in the stern. These have several advantages beyond being better built – they are also storage and are bigger than what was there, and in addition they also slide out easily enabling Peter access to the prop shaft and stern gland. I have a few jobs to get to, repairs to the awning and, if possible, recovering the cushions in the saloon and maybe getting new foam for the seats. And if I get to them, new cushion covers for the cockpit. Before heading off from Batemans Bay we plan to spend a little time in Canberra, helping a couple of friends with a building projects, and then we expect we will spend a week or so doing everything we haven’t had time to do and then….the horizon beckons!

September 2017
Our life aboard Argos has been seriously challenged this year with the surprise departure of our skipper. As a writer, diesel mechanics and the complexities of many aspects of Argos’ on-going maintenance are way beyond me! We would like to see Argos continue to sail and eventually hope to use her to offer support, encouragement and a break to people who are struggling in their lives. Any on-going help towards maintaining Argos would be greatly appreciated and enable us to achieve this goal.
